By the time Siegfried Bing opened his gallery Maison de l’Art Nouveau in 1895, he was a renowned dealer in Japanese decorative arts and a leading proponent of Japonisme. Bing had a vision for a new design aesthetic that was harmonious, elegant, and finely crafted. Discover how this artist-entrepreneur was able to influence a generation of artists and create a “new art” style named after his gallery—Art Nouveau.

Ruby Ming  As the Associate Director of Outreach and Education at Montalvo Arts Center, Ruby designs family, school, and public programs. She has presented workshops for educators about arts integration for the National and the California Art Education Associations, Santa Clara County Office of Education, and others. She received her B.A. in Fine Arts from Brown University and her M.A. in Museum Studies from SFSU, where she is an adjunct lecturer teaching undergraduates about museum history and administration.
