More Info

The Institute welcomes back our favorite jazz pianist Denny Berthiaume and our favorite music historian and educator Robert Hartwell, two long-time friends who will regale us with an evening of famous tunes from the great operas of Puccini, Verdi, Wagner, Mozart, and many others — there will scarcely be a tune you won’t immediately recognize!

Robert Hartwell holds a doctorate in music education from Columbia University. As professor of music at Foothill College, he specializes in welcoming the uninitiated into the world of classical music. He co-authored a three-volume series on the history of Western music, and contributed to the New Pedagogies in Higher Education series. He has served as a pre-performance lecturer for the San Francisco Opera.

Denny Berthiaume began his life-long love of the piano at age 5. After classical training at the San Francisco Conservatory, he turned to jazz, a teaching career at Foothill College,  appearances at many area jazz venues, and a lively recording business.  Now retired from teaching, the music adventure continues as Denny devotes himself to composing, arranging, and recording, while continuing live performances.
